The vague outline of my cellphone is visible as the lighter area left of center. It doesn't appear to be as bruised, but the tissue is actually hard and
varies between numb and a severe burning sensation, and knife-like pain that is presumably caused by the broken vertebral bone fragment.
And then there's the two broken ribs just above it...

Apparently there's a lot of loose blood floating around inside there, looking for some place to go...

Six days post bike-crash; My left side, showing some residual abdominal swelling from the hematoma.
The swelling probably immobilized the two broken ribs, which were not discovered until I sneezed the following day!
